OUR HISTORY
For more than 35 years, Baxter has redefined the capabilities of a construction and development company in the Hudson Valley. As a premiere real estate development and property management firm, Baxter’s hard-earned reputation is a direct result of popular local businesses including Mill House Brewing Company, Heritage Food + Drink and Fit Social, as well as projects in the works such as the LaGrange Farms at Overlook residences and an exciting live, work, play development coming to Academy Street in Poughkeepsie.
Baxter’s recent growth is due largely in part to sister-brother duo, Amanda and Eric, who followed in their father’s footsteps and now run the firm. Bob Baxter, Amanda and Eric’s father, started his career as a full-time industrial arts teacher at Poughkeepsie Middle School, but spent his free time going to job sites watching his grandfather make cabinets and build furniture. Inspired by his grandfather’s ability to build something out of nothing, and with a fierce drive to succeed, Bob established R.L. Baxter Building Corp. in 1983. Watching his children run and grow the firm to what it is today – a team of 65 skilled and hard-working employees and several thriving projects in Poughkeepsie and throughout the Hudson Valley - has made for a very ‘full-circle’ journey for the Baxter family.
We work closely with owners and architects involved in each project to create the best possible building for the growing needs of our clients. We pride ourselves in our strong relationships with our sub-contractors and local municipalities, giving us the ability to deliver high-quality projects while meeting deadlines. For over 37 years, Baxter has been redefining what a construction and development company can do.
